1VII. THE MYSTERIES OF SAINT JOHN
2Parchment. A single fragment (Cairo, no. 47), 11 x 15 cm., from a small leaf of which neither the top
3nor bottom is preserved. The hand (distinguished especially by the forms of ⲙ 3, ⲩ =, ϩ) is identical with
4that of No. xxx (cp. Plate XI A): the only stop used is = (black; by first hand).
5The text, though small, is important as establishing the existence of a Bohairic version of the Mysteries
6of S. Jobn, whereof the Sahidic version was published (from B.M. Or. 7026) by Dr Budge in 1913.1 The frag-
7ment corresponds to the lower part of ⲣ. 70 in that edition and to parts of pp. Re—A= in the Sahidic ms.

What the layers are

L0 witness
The text as its witness or edition has it, original spelling; its dialect is a description and is never standardized.
L0.5 transliteration
For Egyptian texts: the transliteration with the editors' marks turned into the symbols ° * < > _ ^ (ruled 2026-09-10). For papyri: the edition's Leiden marks as the same symbols, and the editors' readings beside the scribe's as ‹scribe→editors› (ruled PAP-3).
L1 Cairene
Standardized Greco-Bohairic spelling and grammar, generated by code from the layer above under the rulings of the project.
L2 Kemetic
The Kemetic alphabet, generated by code from L1.
English
Quoted translations where they exist, credited; otherwise model drafts, marked as drafts.
